Currently Tony Catania is the lead guitarist in JBLZE (http://www.jblze.com), Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience. The critically acclaimed 2010 Fall Tour of the US and Canada (http://www.msopr.com/?q=node/6061) included a performance at a Miami Dolphins game at Sun Stadium. More NFL gigs are planned and the Spring Tour starts May 1, 2011.
Tony Catania was born in Queens NY. At the age of nine, he began learning all aspects of the guitar, including reading and writing music, Classical, Jazz, Standards, Rock , he won the Jazz Award in High School. Influences include John McLaughlin, Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, BB King and Ritchie Blackmore who often came to gigs to see Catania and jam.
At age 21 Catania started his own company Morning Glory Records and an original band to record his first self titled ” Rising Sun ” album. He was then offered his first publishing deal. Catania’s Rising Sun went on to record “Not Made in Japan” album at Bearsville Studios, NY and a live album “Live from Electric Lady Studios” NYC, from which a single was included on 1994 Foundations Forum CD along with White Zombie and Dream Theater. During the 90’s, Rising Sun was one of the most popular original rock bands in NY.
Catania performed many times with Les Paul at both Fat Tuesdays and the Iridium Night Clubs. Also in NYC with Noel Redding, Buddy Miles and others as well as a featured solo performance with the Saturday Night Live Band for the Danny Gatton Tribute. Catania signed on as lead guitarist for Jason Bonham (http://www.jasonbonham.net/) and recorded two albums “When You See The Sun” and “In The Name Of My Father”. The Jason Bonham Band headlined many tours in the US and Japan, in addition to touring South America with Dio, Bruce Dickenson and the Scorpions.
Catania recorded all the guitar tracks for Jason Bonham’s performance of songs from The Who, Jeff Beck, Genesis and Led Zeppelin at the 2008 Drummer Live in London. He has recorded for Line 6 Guitar Port at Abbey Road Studios. He has performed with Slash several times including 2009’s Painted Turtle Benefit in LA with Jason Bonham, Zoe Bonham, Jeff Pilson, Frankie Perez, Thom Gimbel and Dee Snider. Catania has recorded solo material with Producer Andy Johns that is available on itunes.
